Arrest Made In Third Fire At Former Ybor City Baths

Good thing this place has shuttered its doors. Scary to think what might have taken place if this place was still in business.

But a 46-year-old man was arrested, accused of setting fire to the closed Ybor City Baths. The building had been set on fire twice before. However no word if he has been connected to those two other arson attempts.

As reported in the Tampa Bay Times

Two Tampa police officers spotted smoke from the vacant building at 1512 E Eighth Ave. around 2:30 a.m. Tampa Fire Rescue was summoned and firefighters extinguished the flames shortly after arriving.

Later, police said Carroll DeMoss was found inside the building. Firefighters also determined that arson was the cause of the fire.

DeMoss faces charges of second-degree arson and burglary causing more than $10,000 damage. He was being held Friday without bail in the Hillsborough County jail.

Investigators estimate this latest fire (to the Ybor City Baths) caused about $3,000 in damages to the building formerly known as the Ybor Resort & Spa, once a popular gay bathhouse. The first fire in March caused about $100,000 in damages, and there was a second one a week later.
