Scotland’s Pipeworks Opens new Location In Leeds

A sauna club that is scheduled to operate on a bustling shopping strip in Leeds has been authorized to offer alcohol at any time throughout the weekend thanks to a 24-hour license.

Early in the new year, the Albion Street venue will be opened by Pipeworks

On Tuesday, the licensing subcommittee of Leeds City Council approved the license, even though other local stores had objected.

In his testimony, Pipeworks’ Piers Warne assured the committee that the venue in question would be a “discreet premises” and that selling alcoholic beverages would not constitute “the main source of income for the business.” Another club in Glasgow is owned by Pipeworks.

Local businesses complained at the hearing that they were not provided enough information about the new club and that they were not adequately consulted.

Mr. Warne stated that the council and police had previously discussed the license in response to a query over a lack of openness.

This is a discreet premises,” he declared. There must be an atmosphere where people may go without worrying about being harassed or attacked.

Known as “Scotland’s best and largest gay sauna club,” the Glasgow venue is a wild place.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service cites Berry’s Jewellers managing director Simon Walton as saying that the Leeds club would look out of place in the city center.

While he was “completely supportive of the LGBTQ community,” he felt that Albion Street was “not the right location” for their event.

The business had an excellent connection with the Glasgow police and council, according to Mr. Warne, and alcohol sales were not its main source of income.

He remarked, “It’s very minimal.” There isn’t much room for licencing. Instances of individuals being drunk are extremely uncommon, according to experience.

In 2022, at the Glasgow location, a man allegedly died of a heart arrest, and Paddy Whur, who was representing Berry’s Jewellers, inquired into the occurrence.

According to David Cooper, the director of operations at Pipeworks, the man was only in the club for twelve minutes before he received first aid.

He clarified that our venue was not at fault. We pride ourselves on the extensive training of all of our employees.

The hours that Pipeworks can sell alcohol are as follows: Monday through Thursday from 11:00 am to midnight, and on Friday from 11:00 am until midnight on Sunday.
