In what has got to be a first a gay bathhouse in the UK must apply to the city for retrospective planning permission to allow their patrons to sleep over. Despite the fact Steam Complex customers have already been doing so, without incident, for eight years.
A supporting statement submitted by applicants Roger Lee Planning Ltd says The Steam Complex has already been offering overnight accommodation through 21 rooms for ‘more than eight years’ without the necessary planning permission.
The statement says:
“The complex does not provide hotel accommodation but provides the facility for members and guests to remain in the building overnight. Although food and drink is served (Steam is a licensed venue) this is available to all members and guests every day whether they are staying overnight or not.”
