Well that was fast – three months after giving the press a tour of Club 69, the owner Brian Overton has decided to shut the doors of his bathhouse Club 69.<\/p>\r\n
Overton explains his reasons why<\/p>\r\n
\r\n\u201cI\u2019m closing it due to personal reasons. The place has been bought and it will be turned into flats.<\/p>\r\n
\u201cI\u2019ve gone through it in my head a few times and I\u2019ve tried to basically keep the place running but because of mental health issues I\u2019ve decided that I\u2019ve had enough.\u201d<\/p>\r\n
Mr Overton labelled the closure as \u201cextremely sad\u201d and he admitted he does not think he will open up another sauna again.<\/p>\r\n
\u201cI\u2019m too old in the tooth,\u201d he said. \u201cI shall miss all my customers and all the ones that have stuck by and I will be putting something on the internet on Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\r\n
He suffers from bipolar and finds building a relaxing hobby so he spent a year constructing the sauna before opening it in 2015.<\/p>\r\n
Explaining his vision for the club, he said: \u201cI want to create a social feel to the place, and we also regularly have a group of disabled people who come to visit every Wednesday.<\/p>\r\n
\u201cWe also serve roast dinners on Sundays and people are very chatty. It is a place men can come and chat about anything.<\/p>\r\n
\u201cWe have people from all walks of life and age groups from 18 to 85. It is a place gay and bisexual men can come and unwind.<\/p>\r\n
\u201cPeople who first attend are often a bit shaky and nervous but they are soon put at ease.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n
