For all those newbies who don\u2019t know, Bette started her career singing at the Continental Baths. <\/p>\n<p>The Divine Miss M won&#8217;t &#8220;dwell&#8221; on the bathhouse days.  She tells the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/news\/world\/divine-miss-m-faces-next-chapter\/story-fnb64oi6-1226540682975\" title=\"Divine Miss M faces next chapter \" TARGET=\"BLANK\"><u><b>UK times<\/b><\/u><\/a> <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m so proud of what I&#8217;ve done. The fact people go back to that as if I&#8217;ve done nothing between now and then is really distressing.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Told her gay fans just cherish it in a celebratory way, Midler responds <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I know, but it&#8217;s just not me. It was a blip on the screen.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In a longer feature interview, where The Divine Miss M goes more in-depth about her Continental Baths days, she says<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>To tell you the truth, it&#8217;s in the dim, dark recess of time. I remember I had a wonderful time. I remember I made a great mark. I remember that I had a lot of friends in the gay world. I mean, I remember friends more than I remember instances. Unfortunately, a lot of those people are gone, and I think about them often. They would&#8217;ve just been hitting their stride at this point.
